TROJANS RAISE $50,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH DURING THE 3RD ANNUAL KURE IT 901 CLUB REUNION IN NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF.
Fans of USC Trojan football raised nearly $50,000 for cancer research during the 3rd Annual Kure It 901 Club Reunion. The event took place at the Newport Sports Museum in Newport Beach on Saturday, August 27, 2011.USC alumni and friends who participated in the fundraising event enjoyed opening remarks from USC All American quarterback Paul McDonald, entertaining stories of USC Football from J. K. McKay, and a surprise appearance by USC’s Spirit of Troy Band, who entertained the crowd with some of their greatest hits. One of the evening’s highlights was the live auction, which featured a one week stay at a villa in the Mauna Kea resort in Hawaii, and Bob Vokey and Steve Pelisek from Titleist golf offering the winning bidder a chance to get the PGA Pro treatment with a set of custom-made Vokey wedges. The evening concluded with the band playing their victory march, “Conquest”, as guests rose to their feet and displayed the familiar “V” for victory sign.
With his family, Barry Hoeven, a cancer patient himself, founded Kure It after becoming aware that many cancers were underfunded when it came to research. Barry thanked the event committee, sponsors and guests including Traditional Jewelers, Newport Sports Museum, Straub Distributing, Apple Graphics, OneHope Wine, and El Cholo catering for their support. “We are grateful to all of our donors and guests for their support of Kure It’s cancer research efforts. Every dollar brings us closer to finding a cure for kidney and other cancers,” said Hoeven. He went on to say that the event’s success will put Kure It over the $900,000.00 mark for funds raised since starting in 2007.
