Tucson Arizona Storage Facility on Speedway Blvd Fights Cancer: Kure It Facility Spotlight
Funding cancer research is at the heart of the US Storage Centers family because the battle against this disease is deeply personal for many of the company’s employees, and the managers at the new Tucson, Arizona self-storage facilities are no exception. This month we wanted to shine our spotlight on Jesse and Karen Salmon (managers at the Tucson self-storage property located on 1st Avenue, and Reuben Caro, the manager of the our second Tucson storage facility property on Speedway Boulevard.
These managers have done a fantastic job supporting our Kure It Round Up for Research program, and we wanted to take a moment to tell you about these wonderful people and why funding innovative research to fight cancer matters so much to them.
Reuben Caro, Tucson, Arizona – East Speedway BoulevardJust a few block from Karen and Jesse, Reuben Caro manages the US Storage Centers self-storage facility located on East Speedway Boulevard. Caro has been with US Storage Centers for over 3 ½ years, working his way up from a maintenance position to becoming a manager at several US Storage Centers properties.
Many people in Tucson, Arizona have probably seen Caro walking his dog. He’s easy to spot because he’s always wearing his faded Kure It t-shirt and wristbands. People often ask him about his shirt and wristbands and he tells them all about Kure It and how it got its start when US Storage Centers’ founder Barry Hoeven was first diagnosed with kidney cancer nearly two decades ago.
“I’m always giving people my Kure It wristbands when they ask about them and then I add a dollar to the Kure It box in my facility, and I take a new wrist band to replace the ones I give away,” says Caro.
Like his colleagues, at the nearby storage facility on North 1st Avenue, cancer is personal. He’s had several family members and friends who have been affected by the disease, and some have had their lives cut short after courageously fighting the disease. This is why Caro loves being able to help support those who are close to him through his participation with Kure It.
“It’s important to let people know that we support those battling cancer and let them know they aren’t alone,” says Caro. “Cancer isn’t something we can ignore or pass along because you never know when it’s going to affect someone close to us.”
As part of the Kure It Round Up For Research program, US Storage Centers’ Tucson locations add 50 cents to their rent when people move in and those donation help fund innovative cancer research.
